The same episode in more than one form
An alternate enclosure offers the same episode in more than one form — a lower-bitrate file for a slow connection or a limited data plan, a video version for people who want one, or the same audio served from a different host. Each alternative declares its own bitrate, format and source, so an app can pick sensibly or let the listener choose. It also removes a single point of failure: if one host is unreachable, another copy of the same episode may not be.
What you get as a listener
A lower-bitrate version when you are on a slow connection, a video version when you want one, or a version served from somewhere closer to you.
