Proof that a feed really belongs to who it says
The txt tag carries a free-form record in a feed, most often a token that proves whoever controls the feed also controls something else — a domain, a directory listing, a hosting account. It works the way a DNS TXT record does for a website. Nobody sees it, which is the point: it is the quiet mechanism that makes it harder for a copied feed to impersonate a show you follow, and that lets a podcaster prove ownership when they need to move or claim their own work.
